FB Giftbox December 2010 Edition

Peace everyone!

As the last month of 2010, I decided on making some changes to my monthly issues of the FB Giftbox so that: 1. You guys will start practicing more, 2. I can lessen the workload on choosing songs, and 3. I can get those short mixes out as much as possible. Included inside the giftbox is a file and a folder, please read the file labeled first and open the second one later.

I didnt follow any specific themes this month. As a treat to you guys I just chose out songs I think may inspire some of you guys to develop new moves during practice. Hopefully this'll do the trick.

December 2010 Giftbox

I hope you all had a good holiday season! May 2011 bring us many opportunities and joys for the next coming year.

Stay fresh and dig deep!

Bite Me Breakz

Happy Christmas Eve everyone!

Here's a short mashup I created for a video I will be filming shortly after break is over. Its about the length of a commercial, got a few ideas but I'll have to talk with my colleagues to see if its possible... Enjoy:

Bite Me Breakz by theboogiefish

In my next post I will include a special Giftbox as well as a mix I've been picking back up since months back (aside from The Challenger). Have a safe and fun holiday weekend folks! :)

Lil Kim - Crush On You

Damn son.

Its been quite awhile folks. I have 2-3 mixes underway (which is why I have NOT been uploading anything at the moment) so thats been taking a lot of time away from the things I would like to diverge into (CD printing, Stickers, and all the unnecessary yet necessary stuff that one needs to make yourself look important, real business man stuff if you ask me..).

This took me a couple hard hours to find, came up with this but 256kbps is the best I can find with the instrumental until I find the vinyl (if any of you folks out here reading this manage to find anything better like 320kbps please email me, I am VERY interested in upgrading this quality, though 256kbps isnt too bad either). Download and enjoy:

Lil Kim - Crush On You - Single - Included 2 Remixes and Instrumentals

and YES, I will be posting that mixtape soon. How soon? Well... Whenever I manage to drop my ps3 controller and start working on some shit. Be on the look out though, I'll be coming out sporadically as usual..

Cheers!

D.J. Rogers and freebie

...
Thanks to a Waxpoetics magazine I was looking through while sitting in a Borders Bookstore hangin' out, I came across this timeless artist: words and lyrics so powerful, an instrumentation that is impeccable, the background singing, the mugshot-of-a-12"-cover... in short words, this guy, is the shit. Hopefuly your parents--or if you are a seasoned listener, you will remember--his classic hits ranging from "Bail Out" to "Faithful to the End," a sample used in Common's "Be" Album (also classic btw). Check the download link below to check him out; from what I have read from online, you will not be able to find this on vinyl (or it will just be $$$$ or hard to find, but yes).

D.J. Rogers - It's Great to Be Alive

Timeless.

Edit: Here's a free download of an edited loop I created on behalf of Incense Crew, France. Use this anywhere, for your shows, practices, hell... even battles! Listen and enjoy! :)

Back to School Basics Breaks: FREE DOWNLOAD

Hello!

I apologize for such a LONG time to update my blog... many different things are going on at the same time (including moving out, gigs, etc.) so I finally had some time to sit down and think "oh man, I hope my viewers don't hate me!!" lol.

I have included extra music to compensate for the last two months of updates... so hopefully this will be good enough for ya'll!

Back to School Basics

Right click and "save as.." or try clicking on it, maybe that will automatically start your download..

There will be a few new mixes on the way, one for the breaks, while another for the area. Be on the look out for that update..

More Updates

Hello!

Sorry for the lack of updates for the past few days (er.. weeks?!). World of Dance was a big success, thanks to my guys Friction (Killerfornia) and Mikeskee (FSC) for putting together a great event!

Here's a new mix I put together that I have recorded a few weeks ago... unfortunately I had not finished it. Here's a 20 min teaser (yeah, 20 minutes!!) of other genres I am interested in--hoping this would gain some exposure:

Also, my monthly breaks of July WILL BE POSTPONED and mixed with AUGUST 2010. So don't let your hopes down... I'll be on it!

Check out the earlier postings of what I got coming up, Battle Swagger and Through the Grapevine fsho! :)

Peace

July Updates!

Hey folks!

I apologize for not uploading "Breaks of the Month: July" yet... I've been busy juggling a few other "not-so-important" things (such as finding ways to pay for rent, wondering why my grades aren't so great, and not to mention all those lovely happy-hour nights I spend); however, I have been also preparing for a few gigs lined up for the next couple months or so...:

World Of Dance: Seattle Edition

This will be the first Seattle installment of the World of Dance series... not entirely sure what to expect, but from what I've seen happening in SF, it looks like a whole lot of fun. We'll see though :)

Through the Grapevine 2

This is another installment from Outshine Productions. A simple 3v3 and Octagon battle exhibition, but straight to the point. Jams like these... you will need to get your cipher on, definitely.

Battle Swagger

This will be an outdoor day jam... the second one I've ever been to that's not part of the Han Woo Ri jam from the past couple years! Hope for great weather!

Things to expect for the next couple updates: July Breaks of the month, a new mixtape, and recaps from these jams! Stay up everyone!

FB GIFTBOX JUNE EDITION: HOUSE!

Fish Boogie Giftbox June Edition: House

I'd have to thank my friend Genghis Than for quite the hookup (alongside other folks I've been trading with in the past). Hope this will expand your taste for music!

House has always been the genre of music I thought would get boring/repetitive after awhile... boy was I so wrong. With more than 24 different sub-genres within house, it's hard to imagine how many songs each of those genres can be categorized in...

Keep diggin'~

RIP: Ode to Guru

Not Hip Hop at all, but...

This is my dedication to the great Guru, formally Gang Starr with DJ Premier... A lot of the first exposures of hip hop was actually introduced through these artists. Though I did not dedicate my time to listen to each and every lyric Guru had created, the title to this song makes the most sense, since it was indeed one of the greatest mistake I've made to not listen to Guru enough! Hands down, I have had too many memorable moments in car rides to bboy jams, to staying up late at night pondering what I would do for the rest of my life... Real shit, we all must meet our own moment of truth. RIP Guru, we will miss you all...

FREE Monthly Beats! First Edition!!!

Hey everyone,

Alongside mixtapes, I decided to upload monthly beats for everyone to enjoy and stay up on for future jams. If there's one thing I'd like the Seattle scene to excel in, it's musicality. By giving you these songs, I am now challenging everyone to open their minds to all sorts of beats; some might be good, some you might think is wack... but hey, it happens at a jam whether you like it or not. Always be prepared!

With that said, this month's theme in particular is good ol' northwest classics. I've seen recent videos lately from different countries using songs that were played jam after jam when I first started dancing. From then I thought, "I hope people in the northwest forgot about these songs..." This is my dedication to all the first jams I went to from back in the day: the PLU series, MM day, the Shoreline Rec/YMCA jams, 360/BTS, and all the other smaller, local jams that were so low key, only the most dedicated came out to support. Thank you!

Yes, if you HAVE been from the same (or older) scene from what I've experienced, you will most likely have most of these songs. However be prepared, I have included my own pick of songs as well to make it more worthwhile to check out.

FOR EVERYONE: Besides your musicality, I am challenging you to dig deeper in the crates... I have included a special riddle in the text file that's inside the giftbox. For each month, the riddle will challenge you to know about the history of the music we all jam out to. You email/pm me your answer, and I will send you the special link for the prize (and yes, these aren't just regular songs.. expect some heaters). But please, don't ruin the fun by just sending the link to your friends, because this is some real homework that will reward you generously if you take the time to educate yourself...

Dig deep... Stay up... Peace.

Piracy bogus?

Courtesy of Acapella Archives..

US Government Admits Most Piracy Studies Are Nonsense.

"Furthermore, the GAO even concludes that piracy may have a positive effect on the economy, for instance because it leaves consumers with more money to spend elsewhere. On top of that - and I personally believe this is a far more important aspect that gets deliberately neglected by the content industry - people may use illegal downloading to sample content. In other words, without such sampling, they would be buying less media, not more."

Breakin' for Haiti

Been out of touch with a lot of different things... This was perhaps my most recent gig (besides the other paying gigs I get around) that I've been handling as far as breaks goes. I've put my new mixtape on hold for a minute so I can collect myself from all the other things I've been working on at the same time (new tracks, mixes, school, etc.). Here's a few battles from the King Of The Hill (KOTH) just to see what it was like at the jam:

Miami Horror

After looking around for a bit, I came across this group who seems to have the same sorts of sounds as compared to Chromeo or anything of the older 80's era (like, dude this sounds rad!). With the techno synths, lyrics about feeling good, having fun, dancing, generic sounds of the 80's, electric sounds... everything about it just sounds so retro! Check them out if groups such as Prince, Chromeo, The Rapture, or Head Automatica interest you at all.

D-Styles Interview I discovered

What is disappointing you the most in this “scratch game”?

D: The lack of support in the US for anything that’s different. Everyone is still stuck in the one-man band routines. Most promoters don’t know the difference between what’s good and what’s wack. All the wack shit keeps getting booked.

Never rung so true.

Fish Food Vol. 1 is in the works. Shoutouts, scratch solos, beatmatching and all complete! Soon to be on cd's very soon!! :)

Bremerton..BOOYAH!!

Another successful and fun event! Though distance was quite a bit away (an hour ferry ride and a trip downtown) it was well worth the wait! With a new action-packed arsenal of new beats I recently discovered, besides having as many airhorns as possible (to be as ignorant as possible) I have yet witnessed another happy crowd :)

NEWS: After speaking with some folks, there will be some talk of a new mixtape underway (this time, the mixtape will be for sale on CD's at your local F-Rock Vendor or Seattle Bboy jam near YOU!) that will blow you out of your pants! Watch out, it's gonna be hot!!
